Moving Conversations

About Last Legs Dance Theatre

Last Legs Dance Theatre uses movement, humour, improvisation and music to translate sensitive social subjects into performances. We love how theatre can move conversations in a direction of awareness.

Our creative starting point is initiated by stories of personal strife, either present-day or from the past. We produce live performances and provide free online showings with online video discussions with the artists and audience.

We also create supporting online documentaries, interviewing specialists on the chosen subject to give a deeper understanding. Our audiences find this an exciting way to engage in these untold stories.

Shift Improv - Dance In Stroud

Last Legs Dance Theatre teamed up with artist Robin Watkins - Davis and Musician Robert Perry in Gloucestershire's vibrant creative town Stroud to perform at the Shift artist and wellbeing festival. Inspired by Gloucestershire's artist Robin Watkins Last Legs and Robert Perry trained together to be able to step in the space filled with Robins artwork and in order to improvise to music and dance finding a way to connect to the hanging art in St Laurence Church in Stroud. Last legs dance theatre is resident in the Olympics theatre in Gloucester and this is where they train their dance and theatre improvation skill for performances in the surrounding town of Gloucestershire such as Stroud Cheltenham and Cirencester. It was a privilege to investigate the dynamic movement of the art and exploring different expressions of movement improvisation. There is always an excitement with the audience when you start to improvise dance. They know you have no idea what dance movement will appear on stage. This creates great audience anticipation. Also, Stroud's St Laurence Church is a beautiful building that has its own influences. The space constantly provides ideas for dance improvisation. Although Last Legs dance theatre and only been established in Gloucestershire for 2 years. Marie Louise and Peter Anderson have been dancing for over 30 years which can be felt as they create their dance movements together. The improvisation between music and movement has a wonderful collaboration as the music and dance create space for each other to find their expression.
